NORTHAMPTON — The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office is hosting four law students this summer who are working as law clerks.
Law students assist prosecutors with research and writing assignments, including reviewing evidence in criminal cases, drafting legal briefs and oppositions and, in some cases, appearing before district court judges.
Law students at the DA’s office this summer are:
Third-year Northeastern University School of Law student Sam Mackin, who grew up in Hadley and graduated from Frontier Regional School in 2020 and from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2023 with a major in legal studies and economics.
Daniel Nieves III of West Springfield, a second-year student at Western New England University School of Law, who earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Connecticut, majoring in American studies.
Abigail Davis, a third-year student at Western New England University School of Law from Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, who previously attended Wilkes University with a major in political science and an international relations minor.
Evan Naismith, a second-year student at the University of Connecticut School of Law who grew up in Northampton and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
“Mentorship and student learning is a time-honored tradition in the legal field and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office is honored to be a part of that,” Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan said in a statement.
In addition to the law students, the DA’s office placed 11 undergraduate college students in internships this summer in a range of positions such as consumer protection, the victim witness unit, and administration and data entry.
