HAWLEY — A patient was treated for smoke inhalation out of an “abundance of caution,” after a shed attached to a home on West Hawley Road caught fire Monday morning, according to Hawley Fire Lt. Hussain Hamdan.

Firefighters from Charlemont and Hawley responded to 94 West Hawley Road shortly after 11 a.m. for reports of a shed on fire.

Although Hamdan did not speculate on how the fire started, a propane tank with scorch marks could be seen on the ground behind the shed, alongside a fire extinguisher and a hose.

“The homeowner was largely successful in extinguishing the blaze initially,” he said. “We’re not at a point where we know how it started.”
