GREENFIELD — The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce has relaunched its gift card program with a new vendor called SwipeIt.
Currently, there are about 30 participating businesses, but the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce hopes to continue growing the service, according to Executive Director Jessye Deane.
“We’re moving to a new vendor that I think will help us maximize the program and the potential that it will allow to keep local dollars in our small businesses,” she said.
Gift cards are available to buy online, whereas previously they had to be purchased in person.
There is also technical support for businesses through the new company. Previously, Deane had to be on call to handle all technical difficulties involving Franklin County Gift Cards. Now, SwipeIt — which is also used by the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce — will shoulder this responsibility.
“It makes it easier for local businesses to be part of the program,” Deane said.
Deane said the Franklin County Gift Cards provide “a great opportunity for people who want to give locally and gift locally and spend locally.”
“And this gives folks the option to do so without specifying where they want to spend their money,” she explained. “We see people get these gift cards a lot for different teacher gifts, or for anniversaries, or giveaways, because you’re really giving the gift of Franklin County.”
