TURNERS FALLS — Eight residents have been displaced following a second-alarm fire Wednesday night at 12 H St.
According to the Turners Falls Fire Department, none of the residents of the two-apartment building were hurt, though one firefighter sustained an injury. The firefighter was treated and released.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation by the Turners Falls Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:28 p.m. Officers with the Montague Police Department reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the building. Turners Falls and Greenfield firefighters initiated an interior attack, but were driven back by smoke and flames, according to the Turners Falls Fire Department.
Crews from South Deerfield, Orange, Montague, Erving, Bernardston and Brattleboro, Vermont assisted in suppressing the fire and provided station coverage. Turners Falls Fire Chief Todd Brunelle said the building is uninhabitable due to extensive fire, smoke and water damage.
