
A solid all-around effort Thursday powered the Mahar boys soccer team into the Western Mass. Class C semifinals.
The fifth-seeded Senators went on the road and took down No. 4 Pathfinder, 4-0, in a Class C quarterfinal round tilt in Thorndike.
Mahar (12-3) will play at No. 1 Ware in the semifinal round on Friday at 4 p.m.
Dom Whitman scored twice for the Sens, with other goals coming from Lucas Isrow and Alex Dowler. Isrow dished out two assists and Sam Connors also had a helper, while goalies Tristan Gaj and Coltin Fausett combined for seven saves in the shutout.
Class C
Lenox 4, Mahar 0 – The sixth-seeded Sens trailed just 1-0 at halftime but couldn’t hold on in a Class C quarterfinal loss on the road in Lenox.
Alivia Patch made 12 saves in net for Mahar.
Class C
Mt. Greylock 3, Franklin Tech 0 – The top-seeded Mounties held serve at home in a 25-15, 25-14, 25-12 quarterfinal sweep on Thursday in Williamstown.
Greylock will play No. 3 Lenox in an all-Berkshire County Class C final on Saturday.
Lea Chapman put down four kills to go with three digs and two blocks for fourth-seeded Franklin Tech (14-6), while Kristine Given registered three digs and Lily Josephs put down a pair of kills. Jenna Petrowicz went for two kills, three digs, two blocks and an ace.
Boys soccer
Franklin Tech 2, Renaissance 0 — Jaxon Kotright-Clark and Jack Gancarz tallied second-half goals to lift the Eagles to a 2-0 win on Thursday.
Conner Herzig pitched a shutout in his first career varsity outing between the pipes.
Pioneer 3, Hopkins 1 – Alex McClelland’s header off a corner kick from Kurt Redeker sealed the deal for the Panthers, which scored a 3-1 win on Thursday.
Redeker and Mason Cummings also tallied in the first half for Pioneer, with an assist from Matan Lerman-Smith.
Pioneer improved to 10-6-1.
SICS 7, Turners 2 – Yolvin Ovalle netted the two goals for the Thunder in a non-playoff loss.
Girls volleyball
Smith Voc 3, Greenfield 0 – Stella Verlander went for four kills and four aces in the Green Wave’s 25-13, 25-15, 25-9 loss on Thursday.
Addie Rotkiewicz (three kills, five digs, seven aces), Paloma Cruz-Lopez (six digs, seven assists, three aces) and Auburn Mass (three assists , four digs, one ace) also aided the effort for Greenfield.
