
MONTAGUE — The First Congregational Church of Montague will hold a fall festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.
The festival will be highlighted by a birds of prey exhibition, courtesy of raptor rehabilitator Tom Ricardi, to be held at 11 a.m. It will also feature live music, games, pumpkin painting, fried dough, a raffle, a “sweet shoppe,” chili and corn chowder, vendors, a car show, a quilt show and more.
Those who would like to display a quilt at the quilt show should bring it by 9 a.m.
Senior Center plans
bus trip to Salem
ERVING — The Erving Senior Center is planning a “Haunted Happenings” bus trip that will provide transport to Salem on Oct. 17. The round trip, which costs $109, is open to the public and is not reserved for just Erving residents or senior citizens.
The bus will depart from the Senior Center at 7 a.m. before arriving at the House of Seven Gables at 9:30 a.m. Those who make the trip can then embark on a self-guided tour. Each participant will be given a $30 food voucher for lunch. The bus will leave Salem at 5 p.m. and return to the Senior Center by 7:30 p.m.
There will also be a prize given to the person with the best costume on the bus.
To register, deliver checks made out to “Friends of the Erving Senior Center” to the center by Monday, Oct. 9.
ERVING — The Water Department will flush hydrants starting Tuesday, Oct. 10, and will continue until the work is complete. Flushing is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
TURNERS FALLS — The Gill-Montague Senior Center will host a 45-minute training course intended to “provide you with the knowledge and confidence you need to respond to a known or suspected opioid overdose emergency” on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m.
The course will teach attendees to recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, how to provide the appropriate emergency care based on the person’s breathing and responsiveness, and how to administer naloxone (commonly known by the brand name Narcan) nasal spray to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Robin Neipp, public health nurse with the Franklin County Regional Council of Governments, will conduct the training. The course is free and open to the public, but attendance is limited. Those who would like to attend are encouraged to call the Senior Center at 413-863-9357.
TURNERS FALLS — The Gill-Montague Senior Center will host a COVID-19 and flu vaccine clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m.
