Culture wars!? Differences, yes, for sure, but wars!? Do you see what they’re doing? The politicians and the news media trying to drive us apart based on our differences. It’s both the attacks from the right against anyone different accompanied by increasingly open displays of white supremacism, and from the left with cancel culture and for some reason “cultural appropriation” being wrong. We can’t learn from each other? We can’t meld and use what we get from each other?

What is going on? It’s like they’re egging us on. For what purpose? The politicians to get votes and power? The news media to sell advertising?

I miss the old war movies from the 1950s where the Irish guy, the Italian guy, and the Black guy are all in the same unit, making good-natured jokes about each other’s cultures, appreciating each other’s strengths, and working together towards a common goal. (Which goal, of course, was to stop another hate-driven culture trying to take over the world, and they could never have made those movies without Sammy Davis Jr., and they did leave out the female half of the population, but still …).
