SUNDERLAND — For the second year in a row, the South County Senior Center is holding an informational fair and cruise night, but this time in a different venue.

Weather permitting, the Senior Center will hold the fair on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Riverside Park, located behind the library at 20 School St. At the event, older adults and their caregivers will have the opportunity to connect with more than a dozen community partners, listen to music and enjoy food. A rain date is set for Aug. 30.

Senior Center Director Jennifer Remillard said the center is trying to connect with more adults ages 55 and up through different events.

“One of the reasons we want to make sure this occurs is to be more visible within the community,” she said. “We wanted to expand the opportunity for people to gain access to resources and information.”

Among the community partners that will attend are LifePath, Valley Neighbors, RSVP, the Franklin Regional Transit Authority, the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office TRIAD program and Tapestry Health, among others.

Folks will also have the chance to vote on vehicles for the cruise night aspect of the event — registration is free — and prizes will be awarded for different categories.

Musical performers include Sunderland residents Michael and Carrie Kline, as well as TJ & The Peepers.

The event is free, although attendees are encouraged to bring money for Paris & Ty’s food truck and other raffles, including a lottery tree.

Remillard said she is hopeful the Senior Center can continue to host this event and spread more information among the community, all while having a good time.

“It’s a chance for people to visit a nice outdoor event,” she said. “We plan on doing this every year so we can ensure we reach more people.”
