Thanks to Bob Willford for his informative and timely column, “The city’s empty house” [Recorder, June 14]. The city-owned house at 77 Petty Plain Road — uninhabited for at least 15 years — should have been sold long ago. Greenfield is desperately short of housing, which makes it all the more important to do something.
The building could be sold at auction to someone willing to invest in it as a family home. Or the city could donate it to an agency that develops affordable housing. Or the city could even demolish it to add to the Green River School’s grounds. But something should be done. Action is long overdue.
