I wasn’t going to write a letter, but the more I thought about the Recorder’s June 12 front-page photo of the Franklin County Pride parade (with a sign, “I Love Dykes”), the more it irked me. Frankly, it was in poor taste. Also, I feel sorry for the children who see these signs. It must be very confusing for them. If a little boy said to his teacher, “I love dykes,” he’d be in big trouble. When I was in school many moons ago, calling a lesbian a “dyke” was derogatory (as was calling gay people “queer”). Everything is so upside down these days.
