GILL — One person was hospitalized with minor injuries following a three-vehicle crash in the area of 252 French King Highway on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash was reported at 3:45 p.m. According to Gill Police Sgt. Jason Bassett, the collision occurred after one vehicle, which was headed eastbound along Route 2, slowed down abruptly to turn left onto Pisgah Mountain Road. The drivers traveling behind it slammed on their brakes in response, leading a black Jeep Wrangler to rear-end a gray Toyota Tacoma.

Bassett said the first impact caused a “chain reaction,” jolting the Tacoma into the rear of a gray Hyundai Santa Fe. The vehicle that was turning onto Pisgah Mountain Road was not impacted.

The driver of the Jeep, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center by Northfield EMS, complaining of a wrist injury, a neck injury and abdominal pain, according to Bassett. The Toyota’s two occupants, as well as the Hyundai’s single occupant, did not report any injuries.

The Jeep’s airbags deployed and the vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage. The Toyota sustained moderate damage to both the front and back ends. The Hyundai received minor rear-end damage and was able to drive away, while the other two vehicles needed to be towed.

Other responding agencies included the Gill Fire Department and Erving Police Department, which directed traffic while first responders worked on scene. The French King Highway was reduced to alternating lanes of traffic until around 4:15 p.m.

According to Bassett, no charges will be filed and the incident is not expected to be investigated further.
