The Greenfield Post 81 Senior Legion squad opened its season on a high note Monday night.
Taking on Ludlow Post 52, Post 81’s bats got going early and didn’t relent, with Greenfield walking away with a commanding 22-1 five-inning victory at Whitney Park in Ludlow.
“I’m very proud of the guys for starting off how they did today,” Post 81 coach Julian Diamond said. “Hopefully we can keep this going the rest of the way.”
John Marchefka followed up his big season with the Greenfield varsity team with a 5-for-5 performance at the plate on Monday. Cayden Payne knocked a double and two singles, David Carey tripled, Tyler Podolski cracked two doubles while Liam Skribiski-Banack, MJ Paulin, Jesse Dubreuil, Sam Connors and Carter Blanchette all hit safely in the victory.
Tyler Baranowski tossed the first two innings and struck out three before Dylen Richardson came on to strike out four the rest of the way.

The 2023 Mac Sennett Two Ball took place over the weekend at the Country Club of Greenfield, with the pairing of Andy Lesenski and Will Conant coming out on top in the Blue Flight with a low gross score of 62.
The pairing of Chris Ferriter and Joe Wilson tied with Kevin Bagge and Tim McKenna and Nate Burdick and Jim O’Donnell for second with gross scores of 64. David Kennedy and Jason Kelton shot the low net (61), followed by Brady Booska and Brodie Conant in second (62) and a tie between Bobby Villeneuve and Mark Pandolfi, Conant and Kennedy and Frank Kulig and Luis Texeira for third (64).
In the White Flight Thomas Hutchings and Warren Hayden shot the low gross (66) while the pairings of Adam Holmes and Zack Circosta, Al Griffin and Mike Laga, Curt Marion and George Hassenfratz, Dean Vecchiarelli and Mark Longhi, Mark Kennedy and Pat Grogan and Matt Ainsworth and Sam Conant tied for second with gross scores of 70.
Alex Kielb and Hutchings tied with Brian Luippold and Norm Morris for the low net (62). The pairs of Al Woods and Norm Morris, Kielb and Mike Newman, James LaFleur and John Cormican and Paul Newton and Tim McCluskey tied for third (63).
In the women’s flight Helen Wright and Kate O’Donnell shot the low gross (75) while Diane Carme and Elaine Goodhind tied with Teresa Varner and Tina Browne for second (76). Irene Woods and Danica Hochstetler shot the low net (56) followed by Ellen Bitzer and Nancy Robie (59) and Nancy Donoghue and Susan O’Connor (61).

■ Aidan Martin knocked four hits, Sam Call and Shea Nicholas hit safely while Cooper Deane drove in the game-winning run in Martin’s Farm’s 6-5 win over Terrazza on Sunday.

■ The Greenfield 9U tournament team got its season underway over the weekend with a 12-11 win over the Enfield Warriors down in Enfield.
Sean Winslow singled and tripled, Owen Castine and Collin Winslow singled and doubled and Brantley Godfrey had two hits. Bryce Urkiel, Sam Edson and Elijah Lawler combined to score five runs in the win.
Jovan Bones (four hits), Tim Anderson (three hits), Dave Maston (four hits) and RaeAnn Chadwick (two hits) helped lift Pioneer Valley Brewery to a 17-2 win over Manny’s Appliance on Monday in a Montague co-ed adult softball game.
Mike Cole, Rachael Renaud and Jake Benedict each had two hits for Manny’s.
■ Kramer Patenaude had four hits, McKenzie Salls, Kat Luippold and Hayden Patenaude had three hits while Trevor Mankowski knocked two hits in St. Stan’s 22-11 win over AGH Disposal and Recycling on Monday in a Montague co-ed adult softball game.
Matt Gibson had four hits while Joe Guidaboni, Whitney Roberts and Trevor Thomas had three hits in the loss.
