GREENFIELD — The man who organizes the annual Green River Cleanup says the month that includes Earth Day is the perfect time to remind Greenfield residents they can get blue trash bags to dispose of roadside litter they find throughout the year.
David Boles explained the free trash bags are available at the John Zon Community Center at 35 Pleasant St. and at the Department of Public Works at 189 Wells St.
“It’s been very successful in both places,” he said.
The blue bags can be left roadside for free pickup by the city. No trash stickers are required. However, the blue bags are not for any household trash or any items that won’t fit inside them.
“What we really want is for people to take a look around their neighborhood for trash,” Boles said. “I mean it’s Greenfield, right? It’s supposed to be green.”
Boles also mentioned blue trash bags will be available at the Garden Cinemas on Earth Day, April 22. The theater invites people to a free showing of “The Lorax” — a movie with an environmental message — at 10 a.m. that day. It is sponsored by the Greenfield Police Association.
