Around the country, the Y is often referred to as a “gym and swim.”
But there’s so much more to our Y than folks realize. From exercise to mental well-being, from gymnastics class to teen leadership, from preschool to preventive health, the Y doesn’t just strengthen mind and bodies. It strengthens community!
My family and I have been members of Franklin County’s YMCA since relocating to the area in 1984. However, it was not until I joined the Y’s Board of Directors did I fully realize all that our Y provides to the community. We continue to be ever-present for the community as demonstrated by the impressive diversity of programming and ongoing special events.
Thirty years ago, I would bring my sons to the Y for swim lessons. Today, I find myself bringing my grandsons to our Y so they can learn to swim! Seeing the pride and confidence etched across their smiling faces upon achieving a new skill brings me back to when my boys were young. Spanning generations of families, I am reminded every day that our Y is truly here for good.
As we embark on our 2023 Annual fundraising Campaign, I encourage all our community members to join me in helping our Y reach its goal. Your financial contribution will help in so many ways, for so many individuals. I hope you can find your reason to give. Together, we can make a great impact on the health and wellness of our Franklin County friends and neighbors. Thank you for your consideration.
