ATHOL — A 29-year-old Athol man died after being hit by a vehicle in the vicinity of 150 Daniel Shays Highway (Route 202) on Saturday night, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old Athol man, and a passenger stopped to tend to the victim. The victim was transported by ambulance to Athol Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to DA’s office spokesperson Laurie Loisel, no charges have been filed and there is no indication that impairment from alcohol was a factor in the incident.
The crash remains under investigation by the Athol Police Department and State Police troopers assigned to the Detective Unit at the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) and the Crime Scene Services Section.
