While reading John Paradis’ very interesting opinion piece about Gaston Joyeux “A story of liberty, freedom and doing the right thing,” (Recorder, Dec. 9), I was struck by the fact that it’s exactly the type of writing that the extreme right in this country would forbid to be read in our schools. The bogeyman CRT police would never allow any study of our history that would mention the fact that only 2% of our population resisted the Nazis and that many many people were collaborators! Imagine actually shining a light on our history for people to learn and think about. Better to ban things and attack those who think differently and demonize them. Seems to working for Ron DeSantis in Florida but hopefully not on the national stage!

I’d like to add to Carla BarringerRabinowitz’s excellent letter “Fundraising not the problem for Republicans,” (Recorder, Dec. 9) by also pointing out the Republican Party’s heavy dependence on billionaire funded PACs couldn’t save their dreadful candidates because a 50-year-old Super Pac Law dictates that for 60 days before an election PACs and non candidate ad buys cost them 2-3 times what a direct buy from a candidate’s campaign fund ( in most cases made up of small donations) can buy. Not an overturning of Citizens United (should be called the Supreme Court’s destruction of democracy) but a spit in the eye to all the right wing billionaire oligarchs who wasted millions on carpet baggers and incredibly weak candidates.
