The Connecticut River Defenders advocacy group led a protest near FirstLight Hydro Generating Co.’s Northfield Mountain Pumped Storage Station on Saturday to call for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) not to renew the facility’s license and for the facility to be shut down. FirstLight, which has submitted its Amended Final License Application to FERC for a new 50-year license to operate, has been criticized for its facilities’ impact on fish, the Connecticut River and the environment. Environmental activist Karl Meyer was the featured speaker.
