GREENFIELD — The unusually warm weather inspired broad attendance by residents dressed as evil clowns, superheroes, famous athletes and even inflatable dinosaurs at Monday’s Rag Shag Parade and Halloween costume contest.

Participants gathered near the Mohawk Mall and paraded to Energy Park. The parade was led by the Greenfield Police Department and included the Greenfield High School Marching Band, as well as costume contest participants. The Greenfield Fire Department followed at the back.

Recreation Director Christy Moore, traveling near the front of the procession, said she has been a part of the Halloween events in Greenfield for “over a decade now.” In “years past it has been windy or cold and rainy,” so Moore said she was “happy to have beautiful fall weather.”

Many of the costume-clad attendees entered the costume contest, held by the Greenfield Recreation Department, for a chance to win a trophy. The categories were Best Homemade, Funniest, Best Cartoon Character, Scariest, Cutest, Adult Open Category, and Group or Family Category. Lastly, the newest category was “Howl-O-Ween” so residents could enter their dogs.
