I enjoyed reading the article in the Recorder about the Pocket Park on Fiske Avenue in Greenfield.
The original participants’ initiative was to improve the pitiful upper garden in front of Mesa Verde. Dorothea Sotiros and WistyRorabacher worked with Carole Collins of the city of Greenfield to plan the garden, and Carole obtained a grant from AARP to pay for the plants and the signage. Wisty and Dorothea, with the help of a number of master gardeners and community volunteers, installed the garden in November 2020. Wisty and Judy Draper and Dorothea maintain the garden every week, with support from Carole Collins.
“One never knows how much good can come from pulling an unwanted weed out of a public space,” said Wisty.
This was an example of how individual initiative and persistence can have an impact on the richness of our community.
Thanks team!
