NORTHFIELD — Community members are invited to bring their furry companions to Dickinson Memorial Library on Saturday for the 10th annual dog show, set to run from 1 to 3 p.m. The rain date is Sunday.
The show, organized by the Friends of the Dickinson Memorial Library, will be held in the library’s back parking lot. Children ages 17 and under can enter for $5, and adult handlers can enter for $10. Proceeds benefit the Friends.
Library Director Misha Storm said the dog show hasn’t been held since 2018.
The event will include a parade on Main Street and a contest overseen by judges who assign each dog to a category, Storm said. For example, if your dog wears a costume, it can enter the “best dressed” category. Or if a dog is known for its big ears, enter the most “earrisistible” category. Other categories include the daintiest paw, best dog and handler team, most vocal, most obedient, most enthusiastic, best smile, best trick, silliest, best tail wagger and best jumper.
Winners of each category will receive a ribbon, Storm said. First-place winners for each of the 12 categories will be modeled on a calendar, and the proceeds from calendar sales will benefit the library.
Margot Van Natta, a worker from Hiking Paws, and her dog will also be in attendance to give a presentation on canine body language, communication, and a how-to on dealing with dog fights.
