HAWLEY — Pamela Shrimpton, who served as town clerk for nine years, is back in an interim capacity while town officials search for someone to take on the permanent role.
“When I resigned, I resigned for good,” noted Shrimpton, who now lives in Greenfield. “I am helping out now that there is a need.”
For this week, Administrative Assistant Tinky Weisblat is finishing some time-sensitive paperwork that would ordinarily be the town clerk’s responsibility. Shrimpton will then step into the interim position on Sunday, Sept. 25, while Weisblat will be trained as an assistant town clerk for the general election in November.
Shrimpton explained she is willing to work until May, when the town has its annual election. Town officials hope to hire someone for the permanent position by then.
Town Clerk Liz Billings stepped down on Sept. 13, citing “health and family reasons” in a brief email to the Greenfield Recorder. Billings became town clerk on Dec. 1, 2021. After 15 years in Hawley, Shrimpton and her husband had moved out of town.
“I loved my job as town clerk,” Shrimpton recounted. “I only left because I moved to Greenfield.”
Shrimpton feels she won’t have any problem stepping into the role temporarily.
“I will do whatever it takes to have the election,” she said.
