HAWLEY — Town Clerk Liz Billings stepped down from her position on Sept. 13, citing “health and family reasons” in a brief email to the Greenfield Recorder.

Billings became town clerk on Dec. 1, 2021, when she took over for Pamela Shrimpton, who moved out of town. Shrimpton had served in the position for nine years.

Billings and her husband, Shawn, have lived in Hawley since 2016, now with their 5-year-old daughter, Rachel. She also serves on the Hawlemont Regional School District School Committee, having been elected in May to a three-year term. She is retaining her School Committee seat.

Regarding finding a replacement for Billings, Administrative Assistant Tinky Weisblat said, “We are getting in touch with people to see if anyone can fill in for town clerk for the election.” The state’s general election is Nov. 8.

Similarly, Leyden’s town clerk, Gilda Galvis, resigned in advance of the Sept. 6 state primary. The Leyden Selectboard appointed Northfield Town Clerk Dan Campbell and his assistant, Amanda Lynch, as temporary town clerks. Lynch is taking on the majority of the role’s responsibilities, such as maintaining birth and death certificates, while Campbell is helping to train Lynch and provide other services as needed.
