GREENFIELD — Charges are pending after two teenagers allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old girl at the Franklin County Fair, according to Deputy Police Chief William Gordon.
Officers responded to a reported fight involving juveniles at the fairgrounds on Wisdom Way at 9:45 p.m. on Friday night. Gordon said the alleged attack occurred near the fair’s amusement rides.
The girl was taken to the hospital with serious facial injuries and was later discharged, Gordon said. A photo of the 13-year-old girl following the incident, which was shared by her mother seeking witnesses, has since circulated widely on social media.
Names are not being released because the parties are minors. Gordon said the suspects are 13 and 14 years old. Although he could not speak to specific charges, Gordon said the matter will be handled in Greenfield Juvenile Court.
Gordon said police presence at the Franklin County Fair, held from Sept. 8 to Sept. 11 this year, ranges from zero officers to roughly eight, depending on the time and day, making officers available to respond quickly.
Gordon said the incident remains under investigation and the Police Department welcomes information from members of the public who may have been witnesses. The department can be reached at 413-773-5411.
