South County Senior Center hosting flu shot clinic

SOUTH DEERFIELD — The South County Senior Center is hosting a flu shot clinic on Friday, Sept. 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, located at 29 Sugarloaf St.

Those interested in getting a flu shot, including high-dose shots, can register with the Senior Center at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church on Monday, Wednesday or Friday between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. or by calling 413-665-2141.

South County Senior Center plans bus trip to Big E

SOUTH DEERFIELD — The South County Senior Center is planning a bus trip to the Big E on Thursday, Sept. 22.

Seats must be reserved by Sept. 12. Tickets cost $12 and can be reserved by visiting the Senior Center’s temporary location at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 29 Sugarloaf St., or by calling 413-665-2141. The bus will leave from 67 North Main St. at 9 a.m and will return around 5 p.m.

Cultural Council now accepting grant applications

DEERFIELD — The Deerfield Cultural Council is accepting funding proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities and science programs through Oct. 17.

The Cultural Council will prioritize “projects that increase awareness of cultural diversity, create opportunities for artists and community members who identify as Black, Indigenous, POC, LGBTQX, refugee, immigrant or individuals living with a disability,” a press release states.

Mount Toby Concerts hosting Bev Grant and Carolann Solebello

LEVERETT — The Friends of Mount Toby will host an outdoor concert on Saturday, Sept. 17, featuring singer/songwriters Bev Grant and Carolann Solebello.

The show, to be held at 194 Long Plain Road, will kick off at 4 p.m. Attendees are asked to be vaccinated against COVID-19, but masks are not required due to the concert being outdoors. Folks are able to bring a comfortable chair and picnic basket if they wish.

Co-op hosting final Second Saturdays Artisans Market

LEVERETT — The Leverett Village Co-op at 180 Rattlesnake Gutter Road will host the final Second Saturdays Artisans Market of the season on Sept. 10, from noon to 4 p.m.

The event features local artisans, along with music provided by Isosceles and disc jockey Brian Boyles.

Athletic Club hosting clambake, barbecue

SHUTESBURY — The Shutesbury Athletic Club at 282 Wendell Road will host a clambake and barbecue chicken dinner, with music by the Mark Snow Band, on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Shutesbury Athletic Club by Sept. 12. Clambake/lobster tickets cost $50 and barbecue chicken tickets cost $20.

student named to Simmons Dean’s List

SOUTH DEERFIELD — Kyleigh Burns of South Deerfield was named to the Dean’s List at Simmons University in Boston for the spring semester.

To qualify for Dean’s List status, undergraduate students must obtain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, based on 12 or more credit hours of work in classes using the letter grade system.
