The Easthampton boys soccer team showed why it’s the defending Div. 4 state champions on Wednesday against Mahar.
The Eagles put four goals on the board in the first half and were able to cruise to a 6-1 victory over the visiting Senators in a Moriarty League contest in Easthampton.
Dom Whitman had the lone tally for Mahar off an assist from Luke Isrow in the second half.
Franklin Tech 8, Smith Voke 3 — Yolvin Ovalle-Mejia made a great impression in his opening game with the Eagles.
The freshman had a hat trick in the opening 40 minutes of action, helping Franklin Tech build a 4-1 lead at the break. The Eagles tacked four more goals on in the second half to come away with an 8-3 win over the Vikings in Northampton on Wednesday.
David Klempner-Siano tallied two goals while John Ramirez, Robert Belval and John Santiago also found the back of the net for Franklin Tech. Klempner (2), Sam Lashtur, Belval and Preston Duvall had the assists for the Eagles.
SICS 8, Pioneer 1 — Kurt Redeker had the lone Panther goal in a Schmid League loss to the Bulldogs in Springfield on Wednesday.
Peter Loud came up with 34 saves in goal in the defeat.
Frontier 7, Turners 0 — Rebecca Wallace-West had herself a day for the Redhawks, scoring a hat trick in Frontier’s independent win over the Thunder in Turners on Wednesday.
Stella Heflin, Lila Roche, Rowan Reilly and Ashlie Galenski also found the back of the cage for Frontier.
Longmeadow 3, Greenfield 0 — The Green Wave got a tough early season test against the Lancers.
Greenfield held Longmeadow scoreless in the first quarter but the Lancers put two in the cage in the second. Longmeadow added one in the third to come away with a Suburban League win in Greenfield.
Ainslee Flynn made nine saves for the Green Wave. The Lancers had a 9-7 corner advantage.
East Longmeadow 9, Mahar 0 — Isabella Bisceglia made 34 saves in goal in the Senators’ Valley League loss to the Spartans on Wednesday in Orange.
Westfield 10, Mohawk Trail 0 — The Bomber offense jumped on the Warriors early, with Meghan Bowen le ading the way with four goals to propel Westfield to a Valley League triumph in Buckland.
Kaylin Sumner made three saves while Cleome Gardner stopped 24 shots for Mohawk Trail.
Frontier 3, Minnechaug 1 — The Redhawks kicked off their 2022 campaign on a high note, with Caroline Deane leading the way with 16 kills and six aces to help lift Frontier to a 25-19, 25-7, 17-25, 25-11 Eastern League win over the Falcons in Wilbraham on Wednesday.
Eve Dougan put down 13 kills and four aces, Sam Baker had seven kills, Kate DeMaio tallied four kills and Sydney Scanlon distributed 35 assists in the win for the Redhawks.
Greenfield 18.5, Easthampton 5.5 — Matt Lavoine was the match medalist with a 42 to lead the Green Wave past the Eagles on Wednesday at the Country Club of Greenfield.
Dylan Archer shot a 46 from the No. 1 spot, Johnny Marchefka scored 2.5 points with a 49 while Bryce Avery (43), Preston Lafleur (50) and Tyler Zdanowicz (59) all scored four points for Greenfield.
Mohawk Trail 22.5, SICS 1.5 — All six Warriors won their individual matchup, with Phineas Tuttman leading the way with a match-low 54 from the No. 1 spot as Mohawk Trail cruised to a win at the Edgehill Golf Course on Wednesday.
Logan Moore (56), Grady Patenaude (63), Douglas Wilcox (55), Gage Patenaude (56) and Deegan Kelleher (60) rounded out the Warrior lineup.
Palmer 13, Frontier 11 — Ryan Cetto and Alex Gochinski each shot a 41 but it wasn’t enough to get the job done, as the Panthers came away with a 13-11 victory at the Quaboag Golf Course in Monson on Wednesday.
Cam Skiffington picked up 2.5 points with a 43 while Addy Wood (53), Gabe Solodky (57) and Marcus Larson (60) all scored points in the loss for Frontier.
Frontier hosted St. Mary’s, PVCICS and Granby for a meet on Wednesday, earning a 26-29 win over the Dragons, a 15-50 victory against the Saints and a 21-35 triumph against the Rams.
Luke Howard was the first runner across the finish line, completing the 2.75 mile course in a time of 15:51. Evan Hedlund took third (16:28), Amory Maxey finished in sixth (17:04) and Erich Brown took ninth (17:31) for the Redhawks.
In the girls meet with St. Mary’s, PVCICS and Granby, Frontier came away with a trio of wins, beating the Saints 15-50, the Dragons 16-47 and the Rams 15-50.
Nine of the top 10 finishers were Redhawks, with Abigail Howard (18:45), Leah Gump (18:47), Bianca Puera (19:31) and Sasha Malo (20:10) the first four runners across the finish line. Nicole Plasse (sixth, 20:43), Angelina Egland (seventh, 21:20), Sylvie DiBartolomeo (eighth, 21:36), Maia Christensen (ninth, 21:57) and Mary Burt (10th, 21:57) round out the top 10 Frontier finishers.
■ Hampshire and Westfield Tech came up for a meet with Greenfield on Wednesday, with the Green Wave boys earning a 23-32 win over the Tigers but falling to the Raiders, 15-50.
Jackson Caron took 11th for Greenfield with a time of 23:20. On the girls side, the Green Wave didn’t have enough girls to compete for a team score, though Ava Fortin took third (24:56) and Rose Fortin came in ninth (32:26).
