TURNERS FALLS — Worcester-based scientist, engineer and artist Chris King, who upcycles and repurposes found materials into art, will have his work on display through Sept. 28 at the Great Falls Discovery Center, located at 2 Avenue A.
For this exhibit, King has transformed marine, textile and yard waste into fabric, panels and sculpture, while investigating color theory, material texture and information storage in knots. King will give a demonstration of rope making, knot tying and weaving on Sept. 3, 4 and 5, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., as well as on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m.
TURNERS FALLS — Arthur Dorros’ children’s book, “Abuela,” is available for children to enjoy via a StoryWalk at the Great Falls Discovery Center, located at 2 Avenue A, through Sept. 27.
TURNERS FALLS — As part of the Great Falls Coffeehouse series, The Artful Codgers will perform traditional and contemporary folk, bluegrass and classic rock at the Great Falls Discovery Center’s Great Hall on Friday, Sept. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Refreshments will be available. Sliding-scale suggested donations support the center’s educational programming.
ERVING — The town is looking to fill three vacancies on the Recreation Commission, one vacancy on the Planning Board, one vacancy on the Board of Assessors and one vacancy on the School Committee.
These vacancies are for elected positions, according to a notice on the town website. In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 41, Section 11, the Selectboard is seeking residents to serve in these positions until the 2023 town election. To be considered, an interested person must be a registered voter in Erving.
Those interested should send a written letter of interest that includes a name, address, contact information and the town position of interest. Inclusion of education, training, experience and other interests that would lend themselves to the position sought is also encouraged.
Letters of interest are due by Wednesday, Sept. 21, and can be sent to the Selectboard, 12 East Main St., Erving, MA 01344. Alternatively, letters can also be emailed to volunteer@erving-ma.gov.
