The Turners Falls golf team opened its season on a high note on Tuesday. 

The Thunder traveled to the Holyoke Country Club to take on Hopkins and came away with a 21-3 victory over the Golden Hawks. 

Joey Mosca shot a 43 to earn 3.5 points for Turners in the No. 1 spot. Logan Addison carded a 48 to take three points in the No. 2 spot while Jackson Day’s 49 added 2.5 points for the Thunder in the No. 3 position. 

Grady Deery (51), Reese Elwell (50) and Braedon Talbot (50) each scored four points to round out the lineup for Turners. 

Battle of the Badges

The Orange Police and Fire Departments will be squaring off with the Athol Police and Fire Departments on the basketball court on Oct. 1 to raise money for breast cancer awareness. 

The day gets underway at Butterfield Park at 1:30 p.m., with carnival games, raffle baskets and food vendors getting things started. The game takes place at 4 p.m. All proceeds are going to a local family battling breast cancer. If interested in donating or being a vendor, contact the Orange Police Department at 978-544-2129.

In a Par Four’s Only contest in the 18 Hole Women’s League at the Country Club of Greenfield on Tuesday, Terry Boyce carded the low gross score of 42 while Gail Miller shot the low net of 38 in Flight One. 

Donna Woodcock took second in gross scoring (49) while Ann McHugh finished second in net scoring (39). In Flight Two, Irene Woods shot the low gross (55) followed by Anne Lyman (57). Dianne Wood had the low net (41), with Alane Smith taking second (42). 

■ In a Best Seven Holes contest in the 9 Hole Women’s League at CCG on Tuesday, Chris Eugin won the Patty Berg Flight (29) while Elaine Goodhind took second (30). 

Lara Gross (33) won the Nancy Lopez Flight, with TC Emerson taking second (38). Elaine Mount (34) and Angela Berquist (35) were the top two finishers in the Lorena Ochoa Flight while Dee Racz (31) and Susan Luippold (35) tallied the top two scores in the Joanna Carner Flight. In the Annika Sorenstom Flight, Emily Jarvis took first (35) and Kasey Herbert took second (41).

Edge Hill

Ronnie Parker recorded the top point quota of plus-6, followed by Junior Rivera with a plus-4, in the A Division of the Edge Hill Men’s League on Tuesday. 

Dave Cote and Will Derrico tied   for the low gross (42) and Parker carded the low net (30). 

In the B Division, John Walsh had the top point quota of plus-5, with Phil Sherburne with a plus-3. Jamie Bishop had the low gross (41) and Craig Rice tallied the low net (28). 

In closest to the pin, Sherburne won on No. 3 (13 feet, seven inches) and Mark Graves won on No. 8 (18-0). 

Fox Hopyard

Keith Burch shot a course record at Fox Hopyard Golf Club in East Haddam, Conn., on Sunday, shooting a 67 on the par-71 course.
