Mark Eaton bested the field by eight strokes, firing a two-day total of 162 to snag low gross honors at the Edge Hill Golf Course’s Senior Club Championship over the weekend.
Jeff Carantit was the runner-up with a 170. Ron Spencer had the low net of the weekend (118), followed by Ronnie Parker (126) and Bill Green (126).
Sunday was also the last qualifying day for Edge Hill’s Club Championships, to be played Sept. 3-5 in a match play format. In the championship flight, Mark Eaton is the top seed with a low score of 74, while the A Flight top seed is Cw Leach (84) and the B Flight top seed is Jim Small (104).
Thomas Senior Championship
Stephan Smith shot 75 to score the title at the Thomas Memorial Senior Club Championship on Sunday.
Bob Bourbeau won a match of cards to take second with a 78, while Charlie Peters (78) and Rod Herzig (80) were close behind.
Tim Mahoney won the net title with a 63, followed by Mike Morin (66), Ken Morin (68) and Dan Malloy (68).
The women’s title was won by Sally Malloy after a round of 86. Jane Smith was the runner-up (91), with Leslie Heath (94), Deb Cote (94) and Donna McKemmie (95) following.
Skins were won by Bill Roussel Sr. (No. 5), Deb Puchalski (No. 6), Bill Chalmers (No. 9), Rod Herzig (No. 10), Shawn Hubert (No. 12) and Charlie McCracken (No. 15).
55th Greenfield Open
It was a two-way tie for the low gross in the blue flight of the 55th Greenfield Open over the weekend at the Country Club of Greenfield.
Both Jeff Jackman and Dan Lapierre shot 69s to share low gross honors, followed by Andy Dastoli (70), Will Conant (72), Michael Mertes (72), Andy Lesenski (73), Ron Laverdiere (73), Ryan Kohler (73), Colin Dowd (73) and Michael Bechard (73).
Blue flight net winners were Miguel Goncalves (71) and Mark Vincellette (71), while Jim Patterson, Bill Fisher, Chris Kostek and Garrett Plifka all posted net scores of 73.
In the white flight, Patrick Varner, Andrew Wroblewski and Roy Emerson all shot 76 to tie for first place. Chris Zukowski and Dave Perlmutter were next with 77s.
Low net went to Terry Sinclair (65), just ahead of David Marquis (66), Ike Purington (67) and Richard Tozloski (67).
The women’s flight was won by Terry Boyce, who shot 80 to best the field by five strokes. Helen Wright was second (85) and Lisa Riel took third (89).
Low net honors went to Corrine Sysun (70), with Irene Woods second (73) and Susan O’Connor in third (74).
Dowd notches ace
The aces keep coming from the Country Club of Greenfield.
This weekend it was William Dowd who joined the fray, as he notched a hole-in-one at the 11th hole. Measuring in at 165 yards, he used a 6-iron to accomplish the feat, which was witnessed by Colin Dowd, Aaron Dowd and Pat Kelley.
Elks League
The team of Pete Murphy and Bill Erman sit atop the Greenfield Elks League after 17 weeks with 80.5 points. The team of Keith Schempp and Dave McDonald is tied for second with Greg Call and Bob Zaikowski with 80 points.
Week 17 action was highlighted by an eagle on No. 8 at CCG by Jamie Bozek. Closest to the pin winners were Bob Ferris (No. 2, 2 feet) and Bozek (No. 5, 15.5 inches).
WMass Fall League
Trailing 6-4 in the fifth inning, the Franklin County Fisher Cats plated six runs in the home half of the frame to rally for a 10-6 win over Pope Francis Red in a Western Mass. Fall Baseball League Varsity Division contest over the weekend at Beacon Field in Greenfield.
Hugh Cyhowski got the win after coming on in the fifth. He tossed three shutout innings, striking out five. Ben Werner and Ian Simpson also saw time on the bump for Franklin County.
Cyhowski (two singles, three RBIs) and Ethan Quinn (single, double, RBI) led the offense, while Braeden Tsipenyuk, Luc Belhumeur, Ethan Mauthe, Werner and Jackson Campbell all had a hit in the game. Mauthe, Werner and Mike Cyhowski added an RBI apiece.
