NORTHFIELD — Following a pandemic-induced hiatus, the Ladies Benevolent Society of Northfield Farms is bringing back its annual Corn and Chicken Roast for the first time since 2019.

The meal will be held at the Field Library, located at 243 Millers Falls Road, on Sunday, Aug. 28, from 2 to 5 p.m. Although the event is free, and anyone is welcome to attend, guests are encouraged to bring a side dish to share with the community.

The event was first started in 2014, and continued annually until it was put on pause amid the pandemic. However, the Ladies Benevolent Society of Northfield Farms, a local charity dating back to the 19th century, has decided to revive the event in what will be its seventh iteration.

Gail Weiss, current president of the Ladies Benevolent Society of Northfield Farms, describes the Corn and Chicken Roast as a “get-together within the community, (where people can keep) in touch with each other.”

Weiss said previous meals have been attended by between 25 and 30 people, and she expects the same level of attendance this year. For guests bringing children, there will be toys and games available to play with.
