AMHERST — A driver was killed and two other people were injured in a three-car crash on Route 116 in North Amherst Friday morning, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
One of the vehicles rolled onto its roof and the crash forced the state highway to be closed to traffic for much of the day.
Authorities on Friday did not identify the driver who was killed. The two other drivers involved in the crash were taken to Baystate Medical Center by Amherst emergency responders with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the DA’s office.
No further information about the incident was available Friday from Amherst Police, State Police and the Amherst Fire Department, which all responded.
Buses and other vehicles were detoured from the road as the vehicles and debris were removed, with vehicles traveling south from Sunderland diverted onto Plumtree Road.
The road reopened by mid-afternoon.
