Orange Community Band wrapping up season

ORANGE — The Orange Community Band plans to perform the final of its six summer Friday concerts on the bandstand in Butterfield Park on July 29 at 7 p.m. Stephanie Parker will conduct the program, sponsored by Witty’s Funeral Home.

As always in these traditional concerts, the band will begin with “The Star-Spangled Banner,” followed by a march, an overture and various pop, traditional and show tunes from various styles. Music will also include several new selections purchased through a grant from the Trustees of New Salem Academy and the Orange Cultural Council.

Music under consideration for this concert includes “Somewhere,” “Cartoon Symphony,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “In the Miller Mood,” “In a Persian Market,” “The Rakes of Mallow,” and “Copacabana.” The program, however, is subject to change.

The band will also award the John R. Tandy Memorial Scholarships to deserving students who have expressed their appreciation of music.

to visit Orange

ORANGE — Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll, a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, plans to meet with North Quabbin voters at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 31 at Stage on Main, at 17 South Main St.

This meeting is open to the public. Driscoll was elected mayor of Salem in 2005 and has been reelected every four years since. She is a graduate of Salem State University and Massachusetts School of Law.

Orange Republican Town Committee to collect signatures

ATHOL — The Orange Republican Town Committee plans to collect petition signatures at Market Basket and Hannaford from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 30, to call for a vote on the Nov. 8 ballot to prevent illegal immigrants from getting driver’s licenses.

Market Basket in located at 147 Tower Road in the North Quabbin Commons and Hannaford is at 150 New Athol Road, near the Orange town line.

Final ‘North Quabbin View’ photo contest coming up

ATHOL — Athol-Orange Community Television’s July photo contest “North Quabbin View” is wrapping up, and the deadline to submit for the final week is 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 31.

The theme is “Community.” People can submit photos on Facebook and use the hashtag #AOTVNQView or email them to info@aotv13.org. A winner will be drawn and win a $50 gift certificate.

Entrants can submit as many times as they wish, with 50 or fewer words about the special North Quabbin location they photographed. All entries posted with the hashtag could be used in a montage on Channel 1301.

Citizens Club to meet Aug. 4

ORANGE — The Orange Senior Citizens Club plans to meet at 62 Cheney St. at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4.

The program will be “A Walk Through the History of Orange.”

Refreshments will follow. Attendees are invited to bring a friend.

Wheeler Memorial Library to host craft fair

ORANGE — The Wheeler Memorial Library plans to host a craft fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 10, with a rain date of Sept. 17.

The craft fair will feature tables that can be rented out by anyone wishing to advertise and sell their crafts to the community. It costs $25 to rent a table and there are 10 tables available. Anyone interested in renting a table should visit the Wheeler Memorial Library at 49 East Main St.
