Owen Babb tossed a great game for the Frontier Mantle team, striking out 14 and giving up a mere two hits to propel Frontier past South Hadley, 3-1, on Friday. 

Thomas Unkles and Jack Conlin each had a hit and an RBI while B McDonough and Nico Fasulo hit safely in the win. 

Adult softball

Greenfield co-ed

Ainslee Penfield, Tyler Leroux, Aaron Gannon and Dustin Olson each hit a home run in RG Penfield’s 22-4 win over Ralph’s Blacksmith on Friday in a Greenfield co-ed softball contest. 

Matthew Cutter hit a home run in the loss. 

■ Elsewhere the Montague Elks earned a 21-10 win over the Liberty Tax Sharks behind five hits from Dylan Mailloux, three hits and seven RBIs from Tionne Brown, three doubles from John Dawicki and three hits from Kenzie Bardwell. 

Vinny Natale had three hits and four RBIs, Jeff Gibson knocked a double and a triple to bring in two runs and Mike Cole had a single and a double in the loss. 

Basketball

DRIVE League

Xavier Cruz dropped 25 points and Tom Manning chipped in 19 points in OSC’s 85-53 win over FF Morse on Thursday in a men’s league contest of the DRIVE League at Greenfield High School. 

Collin Boudreau scored 16 points and Owen Morse added 11 points in the loss. 

In boys varsity action at GHS on Thursday, Angel Vasquez scored 17 points to lead Athol past Turners, 55-44. Logan Anderson scored 18 points in the loss. 

The second varsity game saw David Grey scored 12 points to lead Frontier to a 52-48 win over Hatfield. Riley Intrator scored 24 points in the loss. 

In boys JV action on Thursday, Grayson Thomas dropped 24 points and David Jung added 11 points in Greenfield’s 44-34 win over Frontier. Eric Larsson scored nine points and Luke Howard had eight points in the loss. 

Later, Hinsdale picked up a 44-36 win over Athol behind 15 points from Trace Tetrault  and 10 points from Jon Winter. Aaron Oullette led the  Bears with 15  points. 

To close out the night, Morgan Softic put in 10 points to lift Orange  past Pioneer, 52-28. Nate Gamache had six points for the Panthers. 

FC Hoop Clinic

The Franklin County Hoop Clinic is running from July 25-29 at Greenfield High School.

 The clinic is open for boys and girls ages 6-14, running from 8:45 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost is $150 per participant and will be run by Greenfield High School girls basketball coach John Hickey and Green Wave boys coach Angelo Thomas, who together have over 40 years of coaching experience.

This is the 24th year the clinic is taking place, with the main purpose to provide each player the tools necessary to elevate their game as well as learning the concept of hard work, dedication and what it takes to be successful both on the court and in life.
