On Friday, June 10, on a crowded Route 91 northbound highway, I suddenly came to a halting stop around 5:30 p.m., right past Greenfield Exit 43.  Eight to 10 cars were at a standstill in front of me.  An hour and a half later, after numerous police cruisers, ambulances, fire and tow trucks had sped down the breakdown lane to the crash, I saw a damaged State Police cruiser being towed from the scene.  Little did I know that State Trooper Matthew Trombley had crossed the highway median into the northbound lanes and had purposely crashed his cruiser into a speeding vehicle which was traveling the wrong way south in the northbound passing lane.

My thanks, and I’m sure the thanks of everyone on that highway, for Trooper Trombley putting his life on the line.  It would have been an “ugly” scene had it not been for his courageous act of stopping that wrong way speeding car. I wish you a speedy recovery.
