BUCKLAND — The Mohawk Trail Regional School District has gone back to square one with its athletic director hiring process.

Although the school district has an athletic director, Greg Vouros, Superintendent Sheryl Stanton said a new job was posted because the position was changed from managing just the high school’s athletics to overseeing a feeder program with sixth graders. She explained this new position aligns with the district’s strategic planning goals, so the job needed to be posted and rehired.

According to Stanton, Mohawk Trail Regional School Principal Chris Buckland led the initial hiring process, which made it to the final decision rounds. During the final round, there were supposed to be three candidates. According to Stanton, two candidates decided to rescind their applications. Stanton cited this as the reason she restarted the hiring process.

“I wanted to go back and repost to make sure we had a full field of candidates,” she said.

Vouros was hired as AD for the 2017-18 school year after the district decided to add a full-time athletic director position. Previously the position had been part time with a stipend and tied in with the physical education teacher’s job. Stanton said Vouros was one of the finalist candidates in the initial decision round.

Stanton explained the hiring process should take a couple of weeks. The process involves a hiring committee.

“I hope we get finalists with the expertise we are looking for,” Stanton said. “If we don’t, we will continue to look for candidates.”
