NORTHFIELD — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood of Leyden will teach a cyanotype class on Wednesday, July 20, at 1 p.m. at the pavilion behind Town Hall.
Cyanotypes are made by treating a surface — paper, cloth or leather — with iron salts that then react to ultraviolet light, such as the sun. Participants are asked to bring dried flowers, grasses, leaves, pebbles, old jewelry, lace or anything that can cast a shadow.
The cost is $5 per person for materials, with a minimum of four people and a maximum of 10 people. Participants must RSVP by Monday, July 11, by calling the Senior Center at 413-498-2901, ext. 114.
If there is no sun that day, the alternate activity will be suminagashi, a Japanese type of paper marbling.
