I read that the Franklin Regional Council of Governments will be planning programs funded by settlement money from legal actions against opioid manufacturers and distributors. I have an idea that I hope gains some traction. I lead community health workshops that support people living with chronic pain and have some insight into the ways this money could make a lasting difference. Please consider using some of these funds to establish a grant program for dental care! So many people get teeth pulled because they cannot afford to fix them. So many people live in pain, have no dental insurance, and (especially in rural areas) lack access to care. Adequate dentistry has broad and significant public health impacts, as well as encouraging productivity, extending life, and improving the mood of people who are suffering.
