Sunderland sets septage rate at $0.12 per gallon

SUNDERLAND — The Selectboard voted Monday to set the town’s septage rate at $0.12 per load as the town faces rising transportation costs and fewer treatment sites accept septage.

More Sunderland residents encouraged to apply to Sanderson Place

SUNDERLAND — The Selectboard and Franklin County Regional Housing and Redevelopment Authority are encouraging more Sunderland residents to apply to Sanderson Place, the affordable senior housing complex on North Main Street.

Sunderland residents are given a local preference in the lottery and applications will be accepted until June 29 at 5 p.m. Applications can be picked up at the housing authority’s office at 241 Millers Falls Road in Turners Falls; the Sunderland Town Hall, 12 School St.; the Sunderland Public Library, 20 School St.; and the South County Senior Center, 67 North Main St. in South Deerfield. Applications are also available online at fcrhra.org.

Applications can be mailed or hand-delivered to the Franklin County Regional Housing and Redevelopment Authority at 241 Millers Falls Road, Turners Falls, MA 01376.

Transfer Station stickers to change sale location

DEERFIELD — Effective June 25, transfer station stickers will only be sold at the Transfer Station on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; online at the town website, deerfield.ma.us; or using the dropbox in the Town Hall foyer at 8 Conway St.

Sunderland Public Library holding book discussion

SUNDERLAND — The Sunderland Public Library will host a discussion of “An Outbreak of Peace” by Sarah Pirtle on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The book follows the story of a 13-year-old girl who asks her western Massachusetts town to declare an outbreak of peace in 1986. The town in the book is modeled after Conway.

Three core illustrators will also be in attendance. Amanda Cohen, coming from Los Angeles, Sunderland’s Young Adult Librarian Heather McGuirk and Luke Scott Miller will highlight the way that sharing their visions for peace in drawings created lasting impacts.

Leverett residents named to William & Mary Dean’s List

LEVERETT — Giselle Hajir and Selwyn Heminway of Leverett were named to the Dean’s List at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia for the spring semester.

To achieve Dean’s List status, students must earn a 3.6 quality point average for the semester.

Leverett resident graduates from University of the South

LEVERETT — Camila San Rim Hwang-Carlos of Leverett earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
