The MIAA Division 6 Outdoor Track & Field Championship gets underway on Thursday at Westfield State University, and multiple locals are looking to build off strong performances from last weekend’s Western Mass. Div. 2 meet.
This weekend’s meet is split into two days. On Thursday, the boys and girls pentathlon, boys discus, girls triple jump, girls pole vault, the 200-meter dash, the 400 hurdles, the 800, the para 800, girls discus, boys triple jump and the 2 mile will be contested. After a day of rest, Saturday’s final day of competition will feature the girls high jump, boys pole vault, girls shot put, para shot put, boys long jump, boys javelin, 110 hurdles, the 100, para 100, boys shot put, girls long jump, girls javelin, boys high jump, the mile, the 400 and all three relays.
Frontier, Greenfield, Mahar, Mohawk Trail and Pioneer all have representatives who qualified to compete at Westfield State in the coming days. Here’s a look at some of the local competitors seeded in the top 10 of their events who will be in contention to medal:
Caroline Crocker blazed to a victory in the 100-meter hurdles during the Western Mass. Div. 2 meet, and she’ll enter the Div. 6 state meet as the top seed in the event (15.2 seconds).
Fellow Redhawk Abigail Howard comes in as the No. 3 seed in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches). In pole vault, Alena Maes-Polan is the No. 2 seed (9-9) while teammate Ayla Starr is the No. 3 seed (9-6). Sadie Ross is the No. 5 seed in javelin (99-7)
Frontier is seeded No. 8 in both the 4×800 (11:10) and 4×100 (53.80) relays on the girls side.
On the boys side, Jack Vecellio looks to add another medal in the pole vault, where he’s the top seed with a mark of 16-0. He also enters as the top seed in the 400 hurdles (57.9) and the No. 5 seed in the 100 (10.9). Erich Brown is the No. 2 seed in the high jump (6-3).
Liviu Mihailicenco has a chance to be wearing multiple medals by the weekends conclusion, as he’s seeded No. 1 in the high jump (6-10) and No. 2 in the 110 hurdles (15.16).
Theo Popusoi is the No. 5 seed in the 400 hurdles (59.29) and the No. 2 seed in pole vault (13-6) while Keegan Doty-Smith is the No. 6 seed in pole vault (10-6).
Lillia Kachelmeyer is the No. 4 seed in the discus (103-5) while Tess Rancourt is the No. 3 seed in the shot put (37-1).
Sienna Moore looks to continue adding medals, and the senior enters Thursday’s Day 1 of competition as the No. 1 seed in the pole vault (10-8). Stellina Moore is seeded No. 8 in the pole vault (8-0). Max Gilmore is the top seed in the para shot put, 100 and javelin.
Ellie Pinkham is the No. 7 seed in the 200 (26.95 seconds) while Emily Sisum comes in as the No. 7 seed in the 400 (71.15 seconds). For the boys, Chay Mojallali is the No. 8 seed in the high jump (5-10).
Nina St. Clair enters as the No. 9 seed in the 100-meter dash with a top qualifying time of 12.70 seconds. Caroline Ring is the No. 7 seed in the discus (100-4).
