The Frontier volleyball team is officially tournament bound.
Behind 15 kills and two aces from Jesse Kurkulonis, the Redhawks kept their unbeaten record intact, sweeping Athol 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 on Tuesday at Goodnow Gymnasium.
Frontier (9-0) assured itself a .500 record with the win, sealing its spot in the Div. 2 state tournament.
Tavo Vincent-Warner dished 26 assists for the Redhawks, with Aleks Carey putting down six kills and Patrick Boyden adding five kills in the victory.
Luke Inniss tallied nine kills, Raymond Castine had five kills, Colin Mason put down two kills and Holden Girouard tossed 11 assists for Athol.
Turners 8, Athol 7 — The Thunder and the Bears picked up in in the top of the eighth inning from a suspended game earlier in the season, with the score tied 7-7.
Neither squad produced a run in the eighth but Turners got one across in the ninth to come away with an 8-7 win in Athol on Tuesday.
Madi Liimatainen totaled three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for the Thunder (8-5), adding 17 strikeouts in nine innings in the circle. Morgan Dobias knocked a triple, a single and two RBIs, Cady Wozniak smashed a double, a single and two RBIs, Paige Sulda singled, tripled and brought in a run while Emily Young tallied an RBI triple in the victory.
Sadey Lehtomaki had a home run and two RBIs, Kennedy Vaillancourt hit a solo home run, Emma Bacigalupo tallied a double, a single and two RBIs and Jenna Bonenfant hit safely for Athol (7-5). Lindsey LeBlanc struck out 18 in nine innings work.
Wahconah 3, Greenfield 1 — Rachel Dodge smashed a solo home run but it was the lone run of the game for the Green Wave, which fell to the Warriors in Franklin County League West action in Dalton on Tuesday.
Kaitlin Lavoine tallied a pair of hits while MacKenzie Paulin went the distance in the circle and struck out 10 for Greenfield (7-3, 4-1).
Hopkins 20, Mahar 2 (5) — Mackinley Drew, Shelby Senn and Saylor Kegans each hit safely in the Senators FCL East loss to the Golden Hawks in Orange.
Kegans struck out six in the circle.
Greenfield 3, Frontier 2 — Kaitlyn Phillips stepped up and picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win in No. 3 singles to lead the Green Wave past the Redhawks in South Deerfield on Tuesday.
Jenna Keith won 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 singles while Estera Covalenco earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 2 singles to keep Greenfield unbeaten.
Sydney Scanlon and Sam Baker came away with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in No. 1 doubles while Chloe Felton and Grace O’Leary won 6-0, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles for Frontier.
PVCICS 4, Turners 1 — Maria LaBelle and Maddy Lilly picked up the lone win for the Thunder, taking No. 1 singles in Turners’ loss on Tuesday.
Mohawk Trail 3, Chicopee 2 — Paige King took No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-1) and Palmer King won in No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-0) to lead the Warriors to a win over the Pacers on Tuesday.
Mohawk Trail took No. 2 doubles via forfeit .
