BERNARDSTON — The town has voted in a new Selectboard member, with Ken Bordewieck receiving 80 votes in Monday’s election.
Bordewieck, 68, will fill the seat held by Bob Raymond, who did not seek re-election after 15 years on the board. A retired banker who moved to Bernardston with his wife, Nancy, in 2002, Bordewieck said he’s “certainly willing to do (his) part for the town” in the Selectboard role.
“The reality is I love the town of Bernardston and always have taught my kids that you have to give back,” he said in a phone interview before the election.
There were no contested races on the ballot, and write-in candidates earned election to three positions, although Town Clerk Christina Slocum-Wysk said Raymond declined to accept the position of assessor, which carries a three-year term. Additionally, no one was elected to a two-year term on the Recreation Commission.
“I am hopeful that someone will step up to be appointed to the assessor and Recreation Commission positions to serve one year until next year’s election,” Slocum-Wysk explained.
Eighty-five voters cast their ballots at Town Hall from 1,731 registered voters, Slocum-Wysk said, making for a 4.91% voter turnout.
The results of the remaining uncontested races are as follows:
■Board of Heath, three-year term — David I. Powers, 79 votes.
■Constable, three-year term — Byron L. Call, 76 votes.
