On the front page of the April 26 edition of the Recorder, I read one headline proclaiming how grants are strengthening the local food systems. The article right next to it stated a bill regarding farmworker pay was stalling on Beacon Hill. I work on a family farm and if the three of us paid ourselves $15 an hour plus overtime the farm would be out of business. What business owner in their right mind pays an employee more than themselves? Why would anyone pay a laborer more than themselves when it is their management and decision making guiding the business? If a worker provides no novel solutions or progressive ideas, why should they be compensated at rates above their employers own salary? Why is the state continuing to dump money into farms and then making a harder financial environment for them to operate? This is the product of socialist ideologues with no clue how reality works trying to force their vision of utopia on people who never asked or voted for it. The commonwealth doesn’t need to worry about farmworker rights because at this rate there won’t be anymore farms with workers to worry about. Stop voting for this idiocy and start voting for candidates with at least some semblance of being grounded in reality.
