Hawley holding Community Resilience Building Workshop

HAWLEY — The town is in the process of crafting a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Plan and will hold a Community Resilience Building Workshop on Wednesday, March 30, from 2 to 5 p.m. via Zoom.

According to a town newsletter, those lacking sufficient internet connectivity or wishing to attend in person may come to the Town Office, where equipment will be set up to allow interaction with those participating online. There will also be more opportunities to comment on the MVP Plan’s development after the workshop.

Workshop participants will help identify and prioritize steps to reduce risks from extreme weather and improve community resilience, the newsletter explains. Enacting an MVP Plan would also make the town eligible for grants.

The goals of the workshop are to:

■Understand connections between natural and climate change-related hazards and planning/mitigation efforts.

■Evaluate strengths and vulnerabilities of residents, infrastructure and natural resources.

■Develop and prioritize resilient actions to be taken by the town, organizations, institutions, businesses, private citizens, neighborhoods and community groups.

■Identify immediate opportunities to advance actions that reduce the impacts of natural and climate change-related hazards and increase community resilience.

With questions, email Will Cosby at wilvis413@gmail.com. Zoom information will be posted at townofhawley.com.
