SUNDERLAND — Residents may experience disruptions in their water service as crews respond to a water main break on North Silver Lane.

The water main broke on North Silver Lane between Park Road and Garage Road Wednesday morning and crews are on scene, according to the Sunderland Police Department’s Facebook page.

Police Chief Erik Demetropoulos said the call came in at approximately 11:16 a.m. and crews arrived to find water all over the street.

“When we got there, the entire road was covered in water,” he said. “They’re digging up the sinkhole and repairing the water main.”

The road will remain closed from Park Road to Garage Road until repairs are made. Demetropoulos said this shouldn’t add too much traffic to other streets in town because it is a “mostly residential road.”

Speaking by phone shortly after 1 p.m., he estimated residents’ water will be back on in the next two to four hours as the Water and Highway departments make repairs.

“There’s still a lot of water in the hole,” he said. “Once they drain the hole and dig it, they may not get to the actual line for the next hour or hour and a half.”
