There’s a great deal of chaos, discord, and confusion in today’s world, and one often needs peace and beauty to maintain balance. I found that at Greenfield High School on Saturday, March 3. I was impressed by the lovely work of the young musicians, by the fine work of the artists, and by the generosity of the potters who donated beautiful cups to the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library.

The Friends sponsor a poetry contest each year, open to anyone from Franklin County. The cups are part of the prize, and my task was to ask potters if they would be so kind as to donate a cup. I needed six cups, and the first six potters I asked said, “Take your pick” with absolutely no hesitation.

I would like to thank Mark Capone, Bonny Grant, Malea Rhodes, Matthew Tell, Rhonda Wainshilbaum, Pam Adorno, Steve Earp, and Black Cat Pottery for their contributions to this program. Thank you for gifts that will continue to encourage creativity and beauty, and thank you for helping me to see, once again, the kindness that is so abundant in the valley.

On behalf of the Friends and Poetry Committee, thank you all very much.
