Strengthening Families Program beginning next week at The Brick House

TURNERS FALLS — March 15 is the last day to apply for the Strengthening Families Program, a seven-session family support program that begins on March 22 at The Brick House Community Resource Center, located at 24 Third St.

A flyer released by The Brick House describes the program as a way for families with children between the ages of 10 and 14 “to learn new ways to connect with each other.” The sessions, held each Tuesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. until May 10 (except April 19), will include dinner. Families who participate will receive a stipend each week.

Library rescinds mask mandate

ERVING — The Board of Library Trustees voted to go mask-optional, effective immediately, during a March 8 meeting, citing a drop in positive COVID-19 cases and the town’s lack of a mandate for the general public.

“I’m really comfortable with people not wearing masks here,” Interim Library Director Jean Daley said. “Numbers are going down.”

United Arc holds support group for grandparents raising grandchildren

TURNERS FALLS — The United Arc is sponsoring a support group for grandparents and other relative caregivers who are raising their grandchildren. The group allows caregivers to share their stories, challenges and successes.

Five Gill-Montague School Committee seats open

Nomination papers for School Committee seats in advance of the Gill town election on May 16 and Montague town election on May 17 are available at the Gill-Montague Regional School District Superintendent’s Office, 35 Crocker Ave. in Turners Falls.

Completed nomination papers are due back to the Superintendent’s Office by 4 p.m. on March 28. All papers must be picked up and returned to the Superintendent’s Office, not the Town Clerk’s Office.

Gary Turn joins School Committee

MONTAGUE — The Gill-Montague Regional School District School Committee appointed Gary Turn to fill the vacancy left by late member Mike Langknecht. Turn’s term will expire in May.
