ORANGE — A 36-year-old Orange resident was transported to Athol Hospital with minor injuries after his car crashed into a tree and caught fire near 5 Main St. on Tuesday evening.
According to a post on the Orange Fire EMS Facebook page, shortly after 6:30 p.m., the department received a report that a car, a blue 2017 Toyota Camry, had been involved in an accident and fire. It was confirmed by police that the driver, the vehicle’s lone occupant, was able to escape.
The fire was “extinguished without incident” and the driver was transported to Athol Hospital by an Athol ambulance. He was determined to have a minor leg injury, according to Orange Police Chief James Sullivan.
Sullivan said while the cause of the accident is still under investigation by his department, there is little reason to believe weather was a factor in the crash.
“I don’t believe there was any significant weather last night that created the situation,” he said Wednesday.
The vehicle, which Sullivan said was totaled and “fully engulfed” in flames, was towed by Jim’s Auto.
