ASHFIELD — A crash on Norton Hill Road Tuesday night remains under investigation after a man was flown to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with life-threatening injuries.

Fire Chief Kyle Walker said his department was dispatched to Norton Hill Road at approximately 8:07 p.m. after Massachusetts State Police discovered a pickup truck off the side of the road “into the snow,” with the driver suffering serious injuries.

“It was into the snow on the side of the road … somewhere in the area about 100 yards up of Main Street,” Walker said. “It’s unclear what happened to the one male party that was involved.”

When first responders arrived, Walker said the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was out of the truck but his injuries were severe, “which was the reason that our personnel on scene requested the helicopter.”

LifeStar flew to a landing zone at the Ashfield Highway Garage and the man was flown to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Walker said the crash remains under investigation by State Police. Highland Ambulance and the Goshen Fire Department also responded.

Goshen responded after an evening doing ice rescue training on Hammond Pond, and helped to prepare the landing zone for the flight.
