CHARLEMONT — Firefighters responded to a report of smoke in a trailer at Woodland Trail Park off Zoar Road at around noon on Tuesday.
Resident Jennifer Duso said she returned home to find her trailer with an attached porch filled with smoke.
“I couldn’t see, there was so much smoke, so I called 911,” she said.
Duso lives with her mother, Carla Spring, who owns the trailer and was at work, and Spring’s boyfriend, Mike Rubin, who was also not home at the time of the fire.
Charlemont Fire Chief Dennis Annear said the fire was quickly knocked down upon his firefighters’ arrival. He attributed the cause to an improperly installed wood stove that ignited wood stored too closely to the stove in the enclosed porch.
The wood stove and chimney was removed by the Charlemont Fire Department, as well as the burning firewood, Annear said. Shelburne Falls Fire District also responded and the building inspector was called.
