Trevor Kuchieski tallied a first period goal, but the Greenfield hockey team was unable to stay with high-powered Minnechaug in a 5-1 independent loss Saturday night at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.

Kuchieski tallied with an assist from Kevin Baumann in the opening stanza for the Green Wave (2-2), which trailed 2-1 after the opening period and by the same score entering the third before the visiting Falcons put three in the back of the net in the final period.

Drew VanZandt netted a hat trick for Minnechaug (1-2), while Tyler Genovese and David Noel had the other tallies.

Greenfield goalie Josh Bordeaux made 25 saves in net, while ‘Chaug’s John Pollard had a busy night making saves on 28 of the 29 shots he faced.

The Wave look to get back into the win column Wednesday night when they travel to play at Drury in a Wright Division contest at 7 p.m. It’s the last game of 2021 for Greenfield, which won’t play again until Jan. 6.
