SHELBURNE FALLS — In what has become the norm in the last year and a half, Senior Center Director Amanda Joao and Activities Coordinator Dot Lyman greeted seniors with smiles on Tuesday as they distributed turkey dinners in a drive-thru format.
With the pandemic having closed the center for many group activities until recently, the drive-thru meals have been a way for seniors to stay connected with each other while preventing food insecurity. Seventy-five seniors received meals that included turkey, stuffing, gravy, squash, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, cranberry bread and a slice of pumpkin pie, along with Senior Center newsletters prepared in to-go bags.
The turkeys were donated by locals and the pumpkin pie was donated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office TRIAD team. The to-go meals are available to anyone over the age of 60 in the western Franklin County area with the next one, the holiday meal, being sponsored by the Greenfield Savings Bank.
The holiday meal, to be picked up on Dec. 7, from noon to 1:30 p.m., will consist of ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, salad, a roll and dessert. Call 413-625-2502 to register.
